Every time I walk into an attic, there are a few things I look for right away — and insulation type is only part of the story.
The first thing I check? Air leakage.
Most homeowners don’t realize their attic has dozens of small gaps where warm or cold air escapes: around light fixtures, vents, ductwork, and even in wall tops. You could have the best insulation in the world, but if air is leaking out, your energy bills won’t budge.
That’s why part of every inspection I do includes checking for airflow, spotting drafts, and sealing what needs sealing. It’s the hidden part of attic work, but it makes all the difference.
I always say: insulate tight, and seal right.
