Customers often ask me: “Should I go with batt or blown-in insulation?”
Here’s how I explain it.
Batt insulation (those big rolls or panels) is easy to install and works well in attics with standard spacing and no obstructions.
Blown-in insulation is more flexible — it fills in gaps, covers irregular shapes, and settles around obstacles like pipes and wiring.
Personally, I recommend blown-in for most attics I work on. It creates more even coverage, and when installed to the right depth, it provides excellent R-value (that’s the measure of how well it resists heat flow).
That said, it always depends on your home’s structure. During my free inspections, I look at access, framing, and ventilation to make the best call. Every home is different — insulation should be too.
